Eremophila and its Study Group – 54 years and thriving (139002)

Lyndal Thorburn 1
  1. ANPS Canberra Region Inc, Greenleigh, NSW, Australia

Lyndal’s presenta1on will cover the 5th-most species rich Australian genus, the Eremophila, from the perspec1ve of the 54-year old ANPSA Eremophila Study Group. Known as desert-lovers, Eremophilas (variously called Emu Bush, Poverty Bush, Fuschia Bush and more) occur naturally in Australia's drier regions. They come in a wide variety of colours, shapes and sizes and the Study Group's work has shown them to be remarkably suitable for na1ve gardens, being mostly frost-resistant, definitely drought-hardy, and variable in form and colour. Though some1mes touchy in long-term humid condi1ons, they have also proven themselves remarkably resilient to occasional floods. The Study Group has over 150 members na1onally and is ac1ve in research (currently with the University of Queensland), development and launch of new garden varie1es, and even the design of postage stamps! Lyndal's talk will be illustrated with numerous photos of "to die for" Eremophilas from around Australia.
